Back in our days at Prep, more than a half century ago, Rene Ackerman was sometimes called Ray, one syllable short of Rene. I thought that was cool becuase I might have been the only Ray that I knew at the time. I knew that after college he went into the military. I thought that would be a tough fit for him because he was the consummate gentleman,.but he was in the military for 30 tears and retired as a Lt. Colonel. His military job was to count money and I thought that was a pretty good.for him. Reading his obituary, he came through life with a few battle scars, non military, but settled into a nice life on Kiawa Island with a large and lovely family. He came to a luncheon many years ago and proved to be very enjoyable company. He was close with his St. Nicholas" friends at Prep, esperially Vernal Piantnida, who works as hard as anyone to stay in touch with old friends especially those of us sub umbra Petri. 1/6/22, Ray Aumack

Rene, Ron Pozzi, Jim Stanton, Vern Piantanida and I were members of St Joseph’s School, Union City. In addition we all went to St Peter’s College. Rene, Ron and I were all commissioned in the army and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. Vern has done a yeoman job keeping in touch. Ron and Rene were both in the Finance Corps and had significant financial responsibilities in the army overseeing budgets, payments of vendors, payment of many thousands of soldiers both in the United States and hostile foreign countries including Vietnam .
